Lena Jovanović
Star Convergence

August 25 – September 6, 2026

The opening of the ambient exhibition Star Convergence, by artist Lena Jovanović, is on Tuesday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. The opening hours deviate from the usual summer practice in the exhibition spaces of the Gallery of Contemporary Art because daylight is of great formal importance for the current exhibition in Salon 77.

Specially conceived for the space of the former Bali Bey Mosque, the ambience of Star Convergence is based on the relationship of continuity between the interior and exterior space, on the light that comes in and the architecture that accepts it. According to Lena Jovanović, “This project is conceived as a subtle artistic gesture that does not aim to fill the space, but rather activates it – with attention, light, silence. … I am interested in how art can influence the way we inhabit space – not as an object to be viewed, but as a structure that slows down, opens up and invites us to experience reality differently. As a silent but constant presence, this work addresses the viewer not through spectacle, but through a state of attention – as an invitation to listen to the space, its layers and shadows.”

Lena Jovanović (Zaječar, 1986) received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. She will enroll in doctoral studies at the same faculty in 2023, with the topic “Marginal Fields: An Experiment in Intermedia Artistic Research”.

She has also held six solo exhibitions and participated in over 40 collective exhibitions in the country and abroad. She has participated in the work of several art colonies and workshops. She is the winner of several awards, the most significant of which is the Golden Chisel, 2024.

She exhibited at the 7th Niš Salon: 12/2 (2022) at the Officers’ House and at the final exhibitions of the DMV Art Colony (2025, 2026). Her works are represented in the DMV Art Collection.

She is a member of ULUS (2023), with the status of an independent artist (2025). She serves as the president of the sculpture section of the association. She lives and works in Belgrade.
